Ready Set Grow Gardening Workshop
On Saturday, March 23, 2019, the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners of Carroll, Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside Counties will be hosting the 2019 Ready…Set…Grow… garden conference day from 8:00 am to 2:15 pm at Sauk Valley Community College. This year’s keynote address: The Shockingly Beautiful Way to Improve Water Quality, will focus on how homeowners can use strategies such as nutrient loss reduction, green infrastructure, and sustainable lawn care practices to improve their lawns but also water quality in their area. Our keynote speaker is Eliana Brown, an Outreach Specialist with the University of Illinois Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources & Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant. She is the principal investigator of the Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy focusing on facilitation and project management. Eliana also works with communities, Master Gardeners, and others to educate the public about stormwater issues and green infrastructure best management practices. Eliana received her MS in civil and environmental engineering and a BS in general engineering with a secondary field in marketing from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a LEED AP and a Master Gardener. Ready…Set…Grow… will also offer three sessions with 15 workshops including some hands-on, a vendor show, door prizes, and a Master Gardener Help Desk. The fee for this program is $45, and registrations will be accepted until March 18, 2019. Fee includes a Continental breakfast & buffet lunch, a welcome bag, and handouts from educational sessions.
