Visitors can step into history at the beautiful Franklin Creek Grist Mill for a delightful spring market day. This enriching escape offers something for everyone, from fascinating mill demonstrations to scenic guided hikes through Northwest Illinois’ pristine natural landscapes.
Throughout the day, guests can witness the impressive water wheel come to life during corn grinding demonstrations at 11:00 am and 1:30 pm. The historic process showcases the region’s rich agricultural heritage in action.
The front lawn will transform into a vibrant marketplace with vendor booths offering various unique shopping options. Meanwhile, delicious food will be available for purchase on the mill’s front porch, perfect for enjoying the spring atmosphere.
Take a guided hike. Adventure seekers can join knowledgeable guides for hikes through Franklin Creek State Natural Area. Three different trails of varying difficulty levels will be offered, with all hikers departing from the Grist Mill at 11:30 am. It’s an ideal opportunity to discover new paths while learning about the area’s natural wonders.
Visitors won’t want to miss the chance to purchase freshly ground cornmeal and cornbread made with the mill’s own product. The Gift Shop will also be open, featuring exclusive new items perfect for souvenirs or gifts.
